Peters Involvement and contribution to Aviculture.

Peter has been a major contributor to Australian Birdkeeper magazine for more than 25 years and authored a book published under their Birdkeeper Series:

• A Guide to Lories and Lorikeets.
• With many images having been used in related subjects in this well known series.

Peter has also produced a number of DVD’s titles such as:

• Lories and Lorikeets,
• A Focus on the Brush-tongued Parrots, and
• A Selection of Finches
• All of which show birds in the wild as well as their care in captivity.

Further contributions include, three DVD’s which are dedicated to the need for conservation of parrots, probably the most threatened bird family largely due to habitat destruction but also the desire for humans to keep them in captivity. They are:

• Save the Worlds Parrots, and
• In Search of Parrots Volume One and Two, showing Australian Parrots and species outside of Australia respectively.

Conservation efforts include the providing images and video footage to:

• Cape Parrot research project in South Africa,
• Katala Foundation in the Philippines for the Red-vented Cockatoo project on Palawan,
• The re-introduction of the Kuhl’s Lorikeet from Rimatara, French Polynesia to Atui in the Cook Islands,
• ProAves, Colombia especially the Yellow-eared Parrot and Fuertes’s Parrot both being brought back from extinction by this wonderful organisation.
• Peter has also devoted time, images and video for the Golden-shouldered Parrot Recovery plan being implemented on Artemis Station, Cape York.

Educational Presentations have also been provided on parrots in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the USA, the Netherlands as well as the highly regarded Loro Parque Foundation based in the Canary Islands, Spain.
